Keeping customers coming back
USA Pawn launched Golden Nuggets on the PawnMate loyalty platform in May 2024. By August 2026, about 27,500 customers had enrolled across six Mississippi locations. The analysis found substantially stronger retention and customer value among enrolled customers.
| Measure | Enrolled | Matched non-enrolled |
|---|---|---|
| Still active at 11 months | 55.3% | 8.5% |
| Still active at 24 months | 44.5% | 6.2% |
| 11-month mean LTV | $1,645 | $172 |
| 24-month mean LTV | $3,254 | $323 |
At 11 months, enrolled customers were roughly 6.5 times as likely to still be active. The gap remained substantial at 24 months.
Reward costs measured against retail profit
The analysis compared retail profit after enrollment with a customer-specific projected baseline, then accounted for redemption costs.
- Projected retail baseline
- $2.46M
- Actual retail profit after enrollment
- $5.31M
- Incremental retail profit
- $2.85M
- Redemption cost to date
- $918,980
- Estimated net program value to date
- $1.93M
3.10x return on redemption cost: Every $1 of redemption cost was associated with roughly $3.10 in incremental retail profit in this analysis. This ratio is based on incremental profit before subtracting reward costs, not net program value.
Retail behavior after enrollment
- Retail visits per month increased from 0.24 to 0.32 (+33%).
- Retail profit per customer per month increased from $5.52 to $13.45 (+143%).
These figures compare each enrolled customer with their own pre-enrollment activity. The report uses the matched-cohort analysis above for the stronger long-term retention and lifetime-value comparison.
How USA Pawn configured Golden Nuggets
The reward structure
- Enrollment bonus: 500 points ($20).
- Redemption: 500 points = $20 off.
- Flat reward, with no partial redemption.
Where customers earn and redeem
Under USA Pawn’s configuration, points accrue on retail purchases, pawn extensions, pawn pickups, and layaway payments. More than 90% of redemptions are used on retail or layaway transactions, which is why the ROI analysis focuses on retail behavior.
These are USA Pawn’s program settings, not a promise of identical settings or results for every store.
